Just as info, for VPN the packages currently needed are:
the vpn protocol (example pptp)
-pptp-linux
the gui
-network-manager-pptp
-network-manager-pptp-gnome

I want to get this done and over with, or at least get a really good start on it, before holidays. I agree that not having a native GUI is unacceptable.

What is the status of this upstream? Does it have some urgency?

I don't think palinek particularly cares about it at the moment, so we'll have to direct manpower to it as a project.

Were you looking to take this on @hmollercl? It would be welcome, otherwise I can do it.

I don't think I have the knowledge to do this as fast as it needs to be done in the time that I have. I can help in testing though.

I've installed the gnome-network-manager and it seems to working okay. I have seen some visual artifacts such as black box areas in "Connection Information".
