i have no graphical skills; but a quick solution may be adding a badge to lenny with the image of the animal for each release. My badge was done using an ermine outline from https://www.svgrepo.com/svg/128156/ermine (creative commons 4.0 which I believe is okay for us), brown with whiter front color inserted into outline ~matching a photo selected from startpage image search of ermines, then placed on lenny-left (my crop in krita chopped a bit much on right size of badge so i could re-do) before adding in gimp. If we don't get anything better something like this maybe an *lazy quick* option.
There's also an equally [*bad but quick*] Software image added to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Marketing/Lenny (Lubuntu modern logo overlayed on top of old LXDE symbol)

Oh, right! Almost forgot about this. This is my take on the this edition's Lenny. I liked Jyoti's idea of adding ears so I did that too, but I changed the overall color to white and added a tail. Still getting the hang of Inkscape. :p

The Lenny design i created was just a first version. This @Guephren version is much better. I think it should be adopted instead of the first version.

Totally forgot about this!!! Can you send me an SVG @Guephren and I'll get this implemented? I do agree with @JyotiGomes (as much as I appreciate his sketch!) that yours is a little better. For one, the white/winter coat is historically more associated with the ermine. There's a heraldry pattern called ermine that is white not brown. Also, the tail is totally essential.
About the tail, I'd suggest making it seem like the dark part is a continuation of the light part, because it is:
