Looks like it's fixed but there's no feedback to the user when there's a fail. Filed a separate bug about that. At the least, though, we can have folks check the casper-md5check.json file in /run in live or /var/log/installer in installed. And I've confirmed the results are included in bug reports.
It looks like the bug is scheduled to be fixed for release so I suspect with that this issue will be resolved.

BTW there's a bug where the check isn't even working right. It seems that this is a regression after they tried to keep the boot going while the check was happening. If they do get that working, then this will be irrelevant, since the confusing text won't be there and the desire to skip won't be there, either.

Thanks to a bunch of testing from others, this works everywhere (all the flavors) but sometimes (especially Lubuntu?) it needs to be hit multiple times for it to work. So maybe something else is going on.

Here's the aforementioned fix to show unknown by default unless there's a clear skip or pass.

Yeah I agree we should add to the release notes as this is a known issue with a task (T16) although there's several directions to go to solve it suggested there and that probably needs some attention.
I stumbled upon this which I admit to not having read in its entirety but I'm thinking this might give some clues as to how to set up the theme properly based on a quick skim.
Just started some more testing on looking at 1864787, and an OEM setup option appeared in the GRUB screen on the uEFI box. It appeared to only Start the live session only, ie. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1901056

As an initial test with a recent daily, I emptied $HOME/.config/lxqt-rc.xml, ran openboc --reconfigure to get back to default behavior, then renamed the file to rc.xml and reconfigured again and we were back to normal. So that looks like a good sign. That does not test the behavior with the change, but that's a start.
One other note: as of right now, the default result is skip. That means that systems that were upgraded from older versions before the file check will say skip. This is clearly not right. I'm going to commit a change to make it unknown.
It may be true (looking at the commit) that this may be a part of ALL bug reports, so this may not be necessary. Needs to be double checked.
