Debian packaging doesn't build for sure. Trying to lay it over the current Git master doesn't work either. Looks like CMakeLists.txt issues. I tried to poke at it but didn't make any progress.

I don't believe anything shows any differently for secure+EFI boot, (vs efi) so it'll use identical testcases as EFI.

I suspect that there's some fundamental change in core Ubuntu. I'm sure that the differences in the amount that has changed is due to different forms of measurement. You should pick one test (try ps ax -o pid, rss, comm --sort -rss | numfmt --header --field=2 --to=iec --padding=5) to get the list of processes and one test to get the memory (vmstat -s | grep 'free memory' might be a good one but memory is always changing; even when used with parallel, I get a slightly different result from free) and run through all the different options between 18.04 and 19.04. Or at least pick three.

They will be new testcases; the files currently are all local (diffs online were a form of backup, though created at that point as I wanted two to speed creation of the fourth one via copy/paste); I haven't yet done the vm install to verify fourth is good. I don't yet understand the upload steps which is why they're all local - but I'll/we'll get there.

@guiverc looking good. I would suggest simply committing these as new test cases (we need to keep the old ones for 18.04 for now) as long as you have a complete test case. We can worry about proofreading and more minor edits later.

As I said that day, there are several commits after latest release. total 7 affecting the concerned file. But among those commits, other files are also changed. So I will have to try to create a patch of each concerning commit and then merge all patches into one. *Then* try to apply that patch. A bit busy today. Have a marathon tommorow. Here's what I know (and this is covered in the manual, but feel free to suggest improvements; it might be good to have GUI instructions, especially as it relates to any mounted partition rather than just swaps):

  • If a device has any partitions mounted, you will not get the Erase Disk option
  • Swaps are automounted by the core Ubuntu system in live, for better or for worse
  • It is beneficial to have swaps mounted on the live system, at least for systems low on memory, so we don't want to make some sort of universal change where we necessarily
  • There's been plenty of discussion upstream about posting a warning or providing an option to unmount things but no real traction on doing anything about it
  • I don't have the hardware to test but I have reason to believe based on some support items and bugs I've seen that eMMC devices are automounted

Right, exactly. It is, after all, xrandr, not waylandrandr. Also, I guess that some window managers see multiple displays as one whole display while others see them as separate, apparently regardless of what xrandr says.

@kc2bez what I was thinking with 1 is that we would have two collections: one full, one minimal. You just pick between them. Isn't that just the same as having two office suites to choose from? Honestly I think 1 is the more urgent item and should be the focus of this task. If it's not attainable for this release, we should boot this.

The script Hans wrote is totally usable and is better than the suggested workaround of using nitrogen to handle the wallpaper, since this requires not using pcmanfm-qt to manage the desktop. No one rejected Hans' script, but it's not really a solution. The problem one finds reading the upstream issue is that both different display servers and window managers look at things differently, so there's not really a generic solution. Ultimately this is going to need new code upstream.
